A remarkable young ballet dancer from near Looe has got his first role at this year’s Theatre Royal pantomime – just 10 months after taking up the art. Finn McSherry, aged nine, will perform alongside around a dozen other young dancers at Cinderella which stars comedian Julian Clary.

A pupil of the Ballare School of Performing Arts, in Saltash, Finn already has his sights set on a career in ballet.

School principal Laura Fleet said: “Finn only started dancing 10 months ago. He was a real rough and tumble boy who suddenly turned around to his parents and said he wanted to learn ballet.

“He has no idea what made him choose ballet and is not intimidated being the only boy in the class and said he doesn’t care about bullying or anything.

“He is really talented. His physical talent is beyond anything I’ve seen in years. He went to the audition and got in, which on ten months training is pretty good. His dream is to attend the Royal Ballet School and we’ll be sending him to attend auditions next summer to see if it’s possible.”
