A talented young Lynn dancer has been selected to be part of the English Youth Ballet’s haunting production of the romantic ballet Giselle. Ten-year-old Ewan Grummett, who attends South Wootton Junior School and is currently training at Noise & Chance School of Dance, is one of 100 budding male and female dancers from the county to be involved in the production.

The award-winning English Youth Ballet will take to the Norwich Theatre Royal stage on Friday and Saturday, June 29-30.

The English Youth Ballet held a competitive audition in Norwich in March this year. Ewan was successful and will attend ten days of intensive rehearsals and will take part in full company ballet lessons. He will be taught by English Youth Ballet’s principal dancers who he will eventually perform alongside.

Ewan will be playing the role of an aristocratic young boy whose governess is the heroine of the ballet, Giselle.

He says: “I started dancing in 2005. I joined because my sister went to dancing. I am looking forward to working with the English Youth Ballet because we will be dancing on a big stage.

“When I am older I want to work in drama in the theatre. If I don’t work in theatre I might work in the movies.”

English Youth Ballet’s large cast ensures that each ballet is performed with the scale and grandeur which was originally intended. The company is one of the largest in the UK and is made up of seven professional principals, who have joined EYB from acclaimed companies such as English National Ballet and Royal Winnipeg Ballet.

Company Manager Ben Garner says: “Working with English Youth Ballet will most probably be the highlight of these talented young dancers’ careers to date. The audiences watching EYB are in for a unique and exciting experience too. They will be seeing both top international principal artists and the best up-and-coming young talent from their region.”

The performances will be at 7.30pm, with a 2.30pm Saturday matinee. Tickets £5.50- £20.00. Discounts for Friends, Over-60s, Under-18s and Groups.
