Portland, Me., USA — Nearly 300 performers — including Calvin Soule and Ezra Soule of Poland, Audrianna Prentice of Auburn and Molly Brown of Turner — will take the stage when Maine State Ballet presents “The Nutcracker” at Merrill Auditorium.
The holiday classic will be presented in seven performances, featuring the live music of the Maine State Ballet Orchestra, from Nov. 24 through Dec. 2.
Soule, 11, takes on the role of Fritz, brother to the story’s heroine, Clara. It’s a demanding part that represents a step up from the roles Soule has danced in previous runs of “The Nutcracker.”
Calvin is home-schooled, along with his brother, Ezra, and sisters Harper, Adelaide and Annabel. Ezra, 9, is also dancing in the show. Both brothers began taking classes in tap and ballet four years ago at Maine State Ballet in Falmouth.
“He was always dancing and always putting on shows for us,” mother Amanda Soule said. “The older he got, the more I saw how much he really liked disciplined dance study, so it started with tap.”
Maine State Ballet will perform “The Nutcracker”at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 ; 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25; 7 p.m. Friday Nov. 30; 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 www.mainestateballet.org.
