Harrison Lee,14 and Kayla-Maree Tarantolo 2013_small[Sydney, Australia] – Two rising ballet dancers from the Hills have won the lead roles in The Nutcracker at Parramatta Riverside Theatres on September 20 and 21. They are Harrison Lee, 14, and Kayla-Maree Tarantolo, 15, who excelled in dance events at this year’s McDonald’s Sydney Eisteddfod. The pair will dance together, Kayla-Maree as a young Clara and Harrison as The Nutcracker.

They are now in rehearsal for the Premier State Youth Ballet’s production of The Nutcracker under artistic director Josephine Jason. The Premier State Ballet is a youth ballet company that offers an opportunity for talented young dancers to become members of a semi-professional ballet company.

Harrison Lee won the $7000 Sydney Eisteddfod Robert and Elizabeth Albert Junior Classical Ballet Scholarship — one of the most important events open to dancers aged 14 and 15, which attracted a record 94 entrants.

After two elimination rounds, Harrison and classmate Kayla-Maree competed in a dazzling final with six other young dancers. Harrison finished his program bagging gold in the classical Ballet Championship (14 years), Boys Championship (13 – 15 years) and the classical Ballet solo (14 years).

Kayla-Maree also finished the competition with three gold medals. Her biggest victory came in the Contemporary Solo (15 years) where she triumphed against 92 rivals. She received glowing reports in the Classical Ballet Championship and the Classical Ballet Solo for her age group and emerged as one of the top performers this year.

Harrison has received a staggering $15,000 in prize money this year alone.
